Internet Online Advertising Keeps You Ahead Of The Game

Here’s the scoop.  My passport is blue and has a cool picture of an eagle holding an olive branch (I think) and some arrows (although it is probably safe to say that it feels more comfortable using the arrows than the olive branch).  What kind of assumptions about me can you derive from that little piece of information?  Well, you should know that I love peanut butter.  Which in turn should lead you to believe that I also really am a fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  That’s right peanut butter and jelly, not one without the other.  There are lots of things like this in life.  I could give a short list of examples here and then try to have the last one be funny, but that would be just too predictable, so make up your own.

Last week though, something interesting happened.  I bought blackberry flavored jam, enthusiastically anticipating my next tasty sandwich.  But, when I put it together and took my first bite I realized that I didn’t like that combination at all.  In fact, I preferred just peanut butter, completely disregarding the jelly.  This is how I feel about the internet and advertising.

It doesn’t require much time online to understand that these two entities are as inseparable as anything that you have on the list you made a moment ago.  But, that doesn’t mean that I have to like it.  Being online I like and there is some really cool advertising that I like, but the marriage of both the internet and advertising seems to create diluted and weakened products as contrasted to their original standing.  What’s the point?  Probably none, as no separation of the online advertising and the internet will take place, but I do feel a little better.  However, perhaps if I was a company that was advertising online I would try to get back to the drawing board and think of how combining these two things could strengthen them both.

Internet Online Advertising; a Great Resource for Employers

The speed and ease of internet online advertising has become attractive to an increasing number of employers looking for qualified employee candidates. Not only is advertising immediate, reaching a broader audience than any other form of media, but ads advertising online yield quicker responses from interested persons.

<b>The Benefits of Ads Advertising Online</b>

Aside from being a quick and easy form of advertising, more and more job seekers are turning to the internet for online job search purposes. They know tapping into online resources when looking for employment, benefits them by broadening job possibilities, and online profiles and résumés are made readily available to employers at the click of a button.

Employers save precious time not having to meet with job applicants in their offices, only to discover minutes into the interview the person is unqualified. Handling resumes online and viewing the applicant’s online profile equips the employer with a time-saving method of culling ineligible applicants to find the perfect candidate.

Internet online advertising also provides the employer with an effective means of sharing employee information with sister offices or other staff involved in the hiring process. E-mail applicants and online resumes are easily forwarded and can be easily retained in an online “bank” of possible candidates for future purposes.

Employer advertising trends reveal that the job online market is the wave of the future. Web sites catering to employer/employee matchmaking services such as istaffsolution.com make world-wide advertising online affordable, and an effective means of networking for online job search purposes.

<b>Advertising Online; a Win, Win Solution</b>

Advertising online is a win, win solution for both the employee and the employer. Broad range distribution of “employee wanted” and “employee for hire” type advertisements increases success in a shorter time span than other forms of advertising.

With a possible savings of $100s or even $1,000s of dollars in advertising, advertising online is also the most cost-effective method of advertising available, and yields better results.

In fact, some online resources allow the employer to “test drive” their services before paying. At istaffsolution.com, for instance, employers have the opportunity to register for free, before becoming a member.

A test search for available employees, and an opportunity to view profiles and resumes provides the employer the chance to determine for themselves whether or not that service is the recruitment solution for them.

And, with no finders fee, no unnecessary time wasted interviewing unqualified applicants, and complete control over whether or not to initiate direct contact with applicants, employees are shouting a resounding “<i>Yes</i>” to internet online advertising!

Internet Advertising Trends – You Won’t Be Disappointed

I hate peeping Toms.  For one thing they usually step all over the hedges and plants on the side of someone’s house killing them and setting back the vegetation’s gardener countless time and effort.  Another thing that I don’t really like about them is that they’re such sideline actors, lacking the abilities to participate actively, that I just can’t offer them any respect, whatsoever.  Finally, I hate peeping Toms because of the very nature of their field.  What is that nature?  Its one of intrusiveness.  And intrusive, unwelcome company is intolerable in any form.  This leads me to internet advertising trends.

Now, I’m not like Robin, that weirdo from my cultural anthropology class; I think that advertising is something that has its place in our society; which for better or worse is structured along a marketplace economy.  But, simply because I feel advertising has a right to exist, doesn’t mean that I like or agree with it, in its many forms and mediums.  Such is the case with the recent trends in internet advertising.  Pop up windows, banners and the like seem to offer me nothing but irritation.  And soliciting emails…10% of emails received in 2000 were advertisements!

It seems though that some of the biggest problems with the internet advertising trends are the lack of accountability.  Where do you register your complaints?  How can you protest in any form against companies whose advertising techniques you don’t agree with?  You don’t.  And on another point of difference between traditional products and their advertising and those of the internet nature, simply ignoring internet advertising is ineffective due to their incredible cost effectiveness, for example email advertising.  I don’t like this business of faceless intruders.  At least peeping Toms personally stand there and intrude.  So in final analysis: it’s true, I hate peeping Toms, but if I had to choose, I’d take one any day over an internet advertiser.

Internet Advertising Tool – You Can’t Lose

Have you ever read the book Facundo: Or, civilization and barbarism?  You might have, it’s a good read.  It’s about Argentina’s internal conflict immediately following its independence from Spain.  Should rule and authority come from a strongly centralized state or should there be regional autonomy allowing for local customs and values to dictate?  It’s that age old tale, we’ve all heard a thousand times.  Anyways, for me, I loved the part that talked about the gauchos and the skills they possessed and relied on to live in the harsh conditions that they did.  Like the trackers that could follow a trail that had been blown over for weeks from winds and stepped upon, through dirt, rock and stream.  I love those guys.

From where I’m standing, unfortunately those days are long gone.  The contemporary gaucho just doesn’t have the same need for the unfathomable survival skills as his predecessor.  But all is not lost.  Today we have internet advertising tools.  And if naturally slow and heavily medicated, one can marvel at the skills of internet advertising tracking programs.  That’s right, with the right advertising tools you can see where your visitors are coming from, which keywords they’re using and every other imagined useful bit of data.  This is going to allow you to make better decisions when considering what direction you should go with your internet advertising.

Take this data and put it into another internet advertising tool called a graph builder and you can quickly make comparative analyses of past advertising techniques and those that you’re currently using.  Did the last change you make help, hurt or maintain?  The information is there for you to make a quick and informed call.  The spirit of Facundo lives on today with all the great internet advertising tools available.  So, whether you got your chaps in Argentina or at the Smitten Kitten, put them on and get tracking.

Internet Advertising Effectiveness - Increasing Profits

When it comes down to it, I like the internet.  I should, I’ve met almost all of my dates there.  Except for Farrah Kritzak, but that was 5th grade and she was long gone by 6th.  The point is that there are of course things that I find frustrating and at times, simply do not agree with online.  Incidentally, the things that I don’t agree with are probably much different than the things my mom’s pastor doesn’t agree with.  Maybe.

Connection interruptions are irritating and bugs and viruses can be really troubling.  But, I really have problems with some of the advertising.  For me they’re simple annoyances.  My concern however comes from hearing stories about people that have lost big sums of money due to scams and advertising deceit.  Bothersome to me, the loss of money intended to pay for medication for some senior citizen.

My personal nature though is one where I like to toss around blanket accusations and guilty verdicts.  Perhaps this is misguided.  The internet clearly provides countless benefits to an unfathomable number of people.  The availability and dissemination of information is something that we simply could not give reasonable measurement to.  Along with the importance of getting information available to people is their ability to access it.  This has been done with relatively little cost to many people.

The fact is that advertising is one reason why internet access is offered at such a low cost.  So, as opposed to cursing all internet advertising, perhaps the better approach would be to cull out those which are harmful and problematic.

The great thing about the internet and internet advertising is the ability to track its origination point and all other aspects of its usage.  So, with the systems that have been created to measure and consider internet advertising effectiveness we should be giving equal importance to eliminating the problematic advertising distributors.  This will create a better environment for internet users, which in turn benefits the legitimate advertisers.

Internet Advertising Consultant – You Can See For Yourself

I like consulting.  My friends sometimes ask me how to patch up their rocky relationships most likely due to poor decisions on their part or  maybe they’re thinking about changing professions.  Here’s what I do.  I sit up straight and squint my eyes, just a bit, and pretend to listen to what they’re saying.  I do listen actually, because getting the general theme of the discussion is highly pertinent to consulting.  Then when they finally finish detailing the nuances of their particular issue my work begins.

The thing that I really like about the type of consulting work that I do is that there are no real requirements, except that my clients need to be desperate enough to come to me and listen.  I often talk about subjects of which I have neither experience nor success.  This is undoubtedly why my practice of consulting is strictly nonprofessional and I won’t likely be able to feed myself on the financial windfall I will never see.

I don’t want to talk disparagingly about anyone’s profession, because first, I’m a pretty nice guy and also because I really would set myself up for a retaliation with no known defense.  So, in regards to internet advertising consults, I’m sure there great folks who probably contribute greatly to individual firms as well as the general economy.

I would, however, like to disparage the really funny individual that wrote an article considering internet advertising consulting as the topic of discussion.  Why?  For a really simple, and unquestionably benign, reason.  Because he/she says that in order for one to become an internet advertising consultant one must successfully overcome just two hurdles.  Quickly, I’ll say what they are.  Professional advertising experience and internet knowledge.

Whatever, no big deal, right?  Probably, but I get irritated for a couple reasons.  The first and less important is that as a really bad quasi-consultant, I’m offended that this person would minimize that tools and skills necessary to find success in the consulting business.  Secondly, and more importantly, I don’t like that this person is undoubtedly preying on the hopes of individuals looking to find a career in order to achieve professional and personal successes that they can be proud of.

That’s why my consulting business has thrived as it does.  My clients (down and out friends) know that the only personal gain that I’m getting from it is my own enjoyment at listening to the sad state of their lives and also for the opportunity to offer ridiculous advice in the hopes that they follow it.  Seems childish, but at least I’m not taking peoples money and self esteem to line my pockets.

Internet Advertising - What Went Wrong?

Spielberg's blockbuster, "Minority Report", is set in the year 2054. The future - at least according to a team of MIT futurologists, hired by the cinematic genius - is the captive of embarrassingly personalized and disturbingly intrusive, mostly outdoor, interactive advertising.

The way Internet advertising has behaved lately, it may well take 50 years to get there.

More than 1 billion people frequent the Internet daily. Americans alone spent $69 billion buying things online in 2004. eMarketer, a market research firm, predicts that e-commerce will climb to $139 billion in 2008. American Internet advertising revenues boomed to $7.3 billion in 2003 and $9.6 billion in 2004. Shares of companies like Yahoo! and Google - sellers of online advertising space and technologies - have skyrocketed.

This is a remarkable reversal from just a few years ago.

All forms of advertising - both online and print - have been in decline in 2000-2. A survey conducted by the New Media Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) - the Internet Ad Revenue Report sponsored by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) - found a 12 percent decline - to $7.2 billion - in Internet advertising in 2001. CMR, The Myers Report, and McCann Erickson have all recorded drops of between 12 and 14 percent in broadcast advertising and of c. 20 percent in radio spots in 2001.

The following year - 2002 - may have been the turning point. A March 2002 Nielsen NetRatings report registered a sharp turnaround in the first quarter of 2002. The number of unique online ads shot up by one third to 70,000. Jupiter Media Matrix predicted a 10 percent increase in online classified ads - to $1.2 billion in 2002. By 2007, it said, online ads will account for 7 percent of total advertising dollars - some $16 billion. Both IDC and INT Media Group spawned similar prognostications for the weaker Asia-Pacific market.

CMR forecast a 5.3 percent growth in online ad revenues in 2002 - compared to an overall average of 2.5 percent. This optimistic projection is based on expected performance in the - hopefully, more buoyant - third and fourth quarters of 2002.

Still, it was clear in early 2002 that ,even if this surge materializes, online advertising would be almost 7 percent below its level only two years before and vertiginously below projections touted by "professionals" as late as January 2001. Internet.com quoted another gloomy prediction, by Goldman Sachs analyst, Anthony Noto: "The likelihood of an online ad rebound remains questionable in the near term." Moreover, growth in advertising in local papers, radio spots, and TV spots was expected to outpace the recovery in online ads.

In hindsight, some advertising categories indeed didn't make it. Cable, syndication, consumer magazines, national newspapers, outdoor, and B2B magazines continued to post sharp decreases.

A sign of the times in 2002 may have been IAB's multi-million dollar advertising campaign. IAB is the online publishing and ad sales industry's largest trade association. In 2002, it tried to pitch the Internet to advertisers in what looked like a desperate effort to increase online ad spending.

Internet.com reviewed the campaign in a June 24, 2002 article:

"The gist of the work is that by encouraging consumers to interact with brand elements, marketers can foster greater awareness, favorability and purchase intent - more so than can static media. The executions share the tagline, 'Interactive is the active ingredient in the marketing mix.'"

They quoted IAB President and Chief Executive Greg Stuart as saying:

"As we continue to mature as a medium, we need to treat interactive as a brand, and the manner in which we position ourselves as an industry is critical to driving the success and adoption of interactive advertising and marketing in the years ahead. We have to speak with the same voice so that we clearly communicate our unique value to all parties."

The collapse in Internet advertising had serious and, in some cases, irreversible implications.

In a report for eBookWeb.org I wrote:

"Most content dot.coms were based on ad-driven revenue models. Online advertising was supposed to amortize start-up and operational costs and lead to profitability even as it subsidized free access to costly content. A similar revenue model has been successfully propping up print periodicals for at least two centuries. But, as opposed to their online counterparts, print products have a few streams of income, not least among them paid subscriptions. Moreover, print media kept their costs down in good times and bad. Dot.coms devoured their investors' money in a self-destructive and avaricious bacchanalia."

Surprisingly, online advertising did not shrivel only or mainly due to its inefficacy - or avant-garde nature. In a survey conducted in early 2002 by Stein Rogan and Insight Express, an overwhelming four fifths of brand marketers and agency executives felt the the Internet is a mainstream medium and an integral part of the conventional marketing mix. Close to 70 percent rated their opinion regarding the effectiveness of online advertising as more positive now than it was 12 months before. A full sixty percent said that their clients are less resistant to interactive marketing than they were.

So, what went wrong?

According to classical thinking, advertising is concerned with both information and motivation. It imparts information to potential consumers, users, suppliers, investors, the community, or other stakeholders. It motivates consumers to consume, investors to invest, voters to vote, and so on.

Yet, modern economic signal theory allocates to advertising an entirely different - though by no means counterintuitive - role.

From the eBookweb.org report:

"Advertising signals to the marketplace the advertiser's resilience, longevity, wealth, clout, and dominance. By splurging money of advertising, the advertiser actually informs us - the 'eyeballs' - that it is here to stay, sufficiently affluent to finance its ads, stable, reliable, and dominant. If firm X invested a million bucks in advertising - it must be worth more than a million bucks - goes the signal. If it invested so much money in promoting its products, it is not a fly-by-night. If it can throw money at an ad campaign, it is stable and resilient."

Online advertising dilutes this crucial signal and drowns it in noise. Advertisers stopped advertising online because the medium's noise to signal ratio rendered their ads ineffective or even repulsive. Internet users - a "captive audience" - not only became inured to the messages - both explicit and implicit - but found the technology irritating.

Many react with hostility to pop-up ads, for instance. They simply tune off or install ad-filtering software. All major Web browsers allow their users to avoid pop-up ads altogether. But banner ads and embedded ads are an integral part of the Web page and cannot be avoided easily.

Thus desensitized, users rebel.

"They resent the intrusion, are incensed by the coercive tactics of advertisers, nerve wrecked by protracted download times, and unnerved by the content of many of the ads. This is not an environment conducive to clinching deals or converting to sales."

There are two sources of noise in Internet advertising.

Free advertising misses a critical element in the aforementioned signal. Information about the purported financial health and future prospects of advertisers is conveyed only by paid ads. Free adverts tell us nothing about the advertiser. This simple lesson seems to be lost on the Internet which is swamped by free hoardings: free classifieds, free banner ads, free ad exchanges. Worse, it is often difficult to tell a paid ad from a free one.

Then there is the issue of credibility. Dot.coms - the leading online advertisers - are rarely associated with truth in advertising. Internet ads are still afflicted by scams, false promises, faulty products, shoddy or non-existent customer care, broken links, or all of the above. Users distrust Web advertising and ignore it.

The Internet is being appropriated by brick-and-mortar corporations and governments. Global branding will transform online ads into interactive renditions and facsimiles of offline fare. Revenue models are likely to change as well. Subscription fees and "author-pays" will substitute for ad revenues. The days of advertising-sponsored free content are numbered.

Internet Advertising - From The Monitor Into Their Heads

Internet web site advertising seems to be the Topic of the day. And I thought that instead of ignoring that fact with senseless personal anecdote, I’d give in to greater office pressure and write about it.  I’m nervous, but here we go.  Oh, wait, before I get into that I want to tell you why.  The why part is because normally I’m a little cynical.  When I am supposed to research some topic and I do, I usually fill with a little bit of disgust.  I don’t think that that’s out of line, considering to the things I read.

But, today as I’m reading about web site advertising I had that familiar tinge of bile backing up in my throat and I was thinking about how I could articulate my inevitable irritation that would inevitably turn into full blown madness.  And then, of all things, this author started making sense.  Even though he’s talking about web site advertising and I typically have sorts of rage (legitimate or not…probably not) about that particular subject, I started getting down with what this person’s saying.  So, without further delay, I will quickly tell you what I think about all this internet web site advertising deal.

But, I’ll do it with an anecdote.  But, this time it’s relevant.  We were making a web site for a company I was working with.  We had very little money and the primary financial backer of the project wasn’t too interested in internet advertising.  Finally, he was convinced to get a web site made for us, but on a shoestring budget.  It was fine, but quite low budget and the designer we got did just that, design.  The little work that was put into traffic generation reaped an equal amount of response—a little.  Well, that business has just been sold to a company that has been known to focus intently on the other aspects of internet web site advertising.  They have gone to great lengths with their previous businesses to develop their site to meet their customer’s needs, utilize various links to bring customers to their site, etc. etc.  I look forward to seeing the remarkable progress that the company will make with their new vision of utilizing internet technology.  I wish them the best, but probably that won’t be necessary.

Ink and its Printing Quality

When you write, you need a pen. When you read magazines, books and newspapers, ink is necessary to print them. When you want to print something from your computer, ink is indispensable. You use money printed with ink. Almost in every thing you do way, ink is attendant.

What is ink? It is a dense liquid composed of dye or pigment suspended in a solvent. Early inks came from fruit and vegetable juices, barks of trees, protective secretions of octopus, squid and cuttlefish.

The very first instance when ink was used was when a man employed vegetable charcoal and glue in Egypt. It has happened 4, 500 years ago. Since then, ink has gone a long way already.

The most recent ink is divided into two - printing and the writing inks. The former is further classified into ink for digital non-impact printing which uses ink-jet and electrographic technologies and ink for traditional printing using a mechanical plate.

Ink is one vital material not only for writing but for printing needs as well. Only few people how to choose ink in order to boost the quality of their printing job. In fact, a lot are still confused about the matter.

How would you know that the ink is a high-quality ink? There are five major characteristics that have to be significantly considered to arrive at it. They are color, surface tension, cleanliness, pH and viscosity.

Color. It is the most apparent characteristic. You can utilize spectrophotometer to get color consistency. This instrument measures the amount of light energy or spectrum wavelength in the object.

Colored inks are usually made from linseed oil, soybean oil and solvent with organic pigments. Black ink, on the other hand, came from carbon black. These inks include additives like lubricants, waxes, surfactants and dying agents.

Surface Tension. This measures the cohesive energy in an interface. To exactly measure surface tension, surface tensiometer is necessary. Inaccuracy in surface tension results to unsuitable droplet formation. Consequently, the droplets will make poor print quality.

Cleanliness. This characteristic is vital so that blotting can be avoided. A messy print resembles crap. Thus, every printing company or a consumer must ascertain first the tidiness of the ink when applied to paper, shirt and the likes.

pH. It refers to the alkalinity or acidity of the ink. The pH value which ranges from 0-6 is acidic while pH value 7 is considered neutral. The pH range of 8 to 14 is considered alkaline. Higher acidity or alkalinity can damage the print heads.

Viscosity. It is the flow rate or measure of the fluid’s resistance to deformation. It is closely associated to being thick.

Now that you are well-informed, you are likely to make good decision with regards to choosing high-quality ink.

In-Game Advertising: Get Your Brand in the Game!

Looking for a new, innovative way to reach your target audience and increase brand awareness? In-game advertising may be the answer.

According to a Nielson Interactive Entertainment study conducted in the fall of 2005, television viewership among men ages 18-34 has declined 12 percent, while this same audience spent 20 percent more time with video games. As a result, this highly elusive male demographic has become increasingly difficult to reach, especially through traditional advertising mediums. With market segments turning from  traditional media to new forms of electronic entertainment, it’s time for brands to get in the game – literally – if they want to continue capturing audience share.

Unlike television viewers, which tend to be more passive, video  game players are focused and actively involved in the gaming experience. Constantly alert and responsive to every element on the screen, gamers are an intensely captive audience. Unlike television advertising, which is often dismissed or ignored by the audience, in-game advertising can actually enhance the realism of the game play, thereby creating a positive connection between brands and consumers.

Companies looking to integrate their brand or products in video games will find a wide range of target audience advertising opportunities, including:

-    Dynamic ad placement — Dynamic ad placement allows for static and video-based ads to be positioned in console, PC and online games. With the advent of live online gaming, ads can now be tracked and evaluated, offering time-sensitive messaging and geographic targeting, which allows brands to maximize their exposure among their target audience.
-    Product placement — Situation or plot placement integrates products into the active game play. For example, you might see a vending machine featuring a popular cola brand displayed prominently in a video game, where a player might drink a can of cola to “power up” before completing the next challenge.
-    Advergaming — Advergames are interactive games developed specifically for a brand where the plot and game-play revolve around a featured product. Advergames are generally posted to a corporate Web site or distributed through online game channels for download.

In-game advertising is quickly becoming a mainstream medium for target audience advertising and is growing exponentially each year. Ad spending in video games totaled only about $75 million in 2005, but estimates have that figure rising to $1 billion by the end of the decade.

The future of in-game advertising is bright, and now is the time for brands to start playing.

Infomercials - Television Advertising

Infomercials have been around for along time. Have you ever caught yourself glued to the TV watching and listening to information on a new TV product? We have all seen these ads and I am sure most of us have some of these products in our homes. I know I have several. Wow, will that really clean my floors and make them look new again? Use water to steam away all those germs. Only five minutes a day and you will lose weight! How can you not want to try these products? Only $19.99 or 5 easy installments of $29.99.

A number of celebrities endorse these products. One product that has been around for awhile is The Thighmaster endorsed by Suzanne Somers. She also endorses other exercise machines such as torso track, beauty products and even appliances. Suzanne has made a real impression in infomercial world.

Celebrities definitely help these products to sell. These are people we can relate to and if they are endorsing a product and putting their name to the infomercial product it must be worth buying, right?

Some infomercial products have turned the spokesperson like Ron Popeil into a celebrity. Most people know who he is. When I hear his name "Set It and Forget It" comes to mind. Get rid of that fat from your foods and walk away while your food cooks. I have one of his rotisserie and I have to admit I love it! The food comes out real moist and tasty. Ron has come out with a whole line of helpful kitchen products.

George Foreman also got into "Get Rid Of The Fat" products. I also have his George Forman grill which is awesome for making sandwiches, hamburgers, cooking bacon and I find it easy to clean. It seems every year he perfects his product with a new line.

I do like infomercials and get easily drawn in. Sure some are just ridiculous gadgets that we really do not need and just end up in the back of the closet after a few uses. What about the products that you see advertised all the time and have been around for awhile? They must be living up to their ad and do what they say if some many people are still purchasing.

Television is a very powerful way to advertise a product and have it endorse by a celebrity and the product can become an instant hit. The internet has become another tool for advertising these products. The web makes it even easier for us to purchase. If you walked into the tail end of an infomercial you can find out more about it online. Do a search for the product name and you should be able to find it on the web. You can even find sites that have short clips of the product in action.

What will be the hot As Seen On TV Product this year????

Influencing the influencer

Marketers/advertisers usually focus their efforts on the people responsible for making the purchase. In many cases, this is an effective approach but in other cases it can make for a totally useless marketing campaign.

Virgin Mobile took a more effective approach in marketing their cell phone service by focusing not on the people that would be making the actual purchase, but instead focusing on the influencers of the people making the purchase. To make this campaign work, Virgin developed a viral website called <a href="http://enlightenmentkit.com/" target="_blank">Parental Enlightenment</a> Kit which offers many tips (often fairy funny ones) to convince their parents to purchase a Virgin Mobile phone for them. By enlisting the teenagers Virgin has multiplied the effectiveness of their marketing campaign for 3 reasons:

1. The teenagers will continually mention the phone/service to their parents until they get it - Virgin's campaign will continue to work long after the teenager has left the computer.

2. This approach is exactly the type of thing that spreads virally. As teenagers tell their friends about it, it will increase exponentially in it's effectiveness.

3. They have targeted the most likely decision maker rather than the person responsible for the purchase.

Companies in other industries have take the same approach and achieved amazing results. For example, Pfizer targeted men with erectile disfunction (a more PC term for impotence) rather than the doctors who would actually prescribe the drug (Viagra) to treat it. You can take the same approach to market your product/service and reap tremendous rewards.

Indirect Advertising

I am reasonably certain that anyone reading this article is familiar with all the free online advertising methods such as the all-too familiar Sp-m emails, Classified Ads, FFA pages, Banners, Text Ads, Traffic Exchanges, Newsletters, Guaranteed Visitors, Paid to Read, Paid to Join, Link Swaps, Pop-ups, as well as many other types of 'In-Your-Face' advertising, some of which may have been dreamed up since this article was written.

What I would like you to consider is this: What do you think when you see this kind of stuff yourself? More to the point, what is your 'Frame of Mind' at that moment?

My guess is you think, "Here we go again..." and your shields go up. You pull up your waders and trudge on through, oblivious to the thousands of messages ricocheting off your armor as you collect a few more hits for your own website promotion or product offer.

With Millions of would be online Millionaires doing this hour after hour and day after day, is it any wonder that the Internet slows down to a crawl and even stops at times?

Now consider the "Frame of Mind" of a visitor that came looking for you to see what you are doing. Maybe even to ask a few questions and give you permission to email them. Does this sound like a more productive environment?

The online equivalent to this scene is being played out today and every day and you can participate for free. It is called 'Social Networking' and more information on this is easily found with your favorite search engine.

Imagine if you are no longer perceived as another 'Salesman' but as a "Fellow Business Person" with similar problems and often good ideas for their solutions. Much like Napoleon Hill wrote about in his world renown-book, "Think and Grow Rich", you could be a team member of a virtual Mastermind Group. Chamber of Commerce Mixers have been an example of this approach for years and have been very successful for some who get it. Now you can accomplish nearly the same thing for your home business from your own computer.

Keep in mind, this should not be just another place to plaster your links. The strongest relationships are formed by giving first. Do a mental inventory and come up with something you know or have that would help others more than yourself. Find a way to offer it with no strings attached, no signup or email address required, just give it freely. I know it sounds crazy in this dog-eat-dog world, but trust me it works.

Alright, now it is all up to you. Continue contributing to the degradation of Internet bandwidth with the huge numbers of attempts required (many not even reaching their target) to get a single response, or try something that builds future relationships with new friends that are truly interested in what you are doing and not just trying to sell you something.

Increasing Sales Using the Different Methods of Gathering Business Leads

Business leads are one of the most important parts of a marketing plan. It allows companies and individuals to find investors, donors, response buyers and even a new business to expand company production. However, looking for business leads is not as easy as it may seem because you have to go through thousands of consumers and contacts before you can find the right leads.

Fortunately, there are different methods of gathering business leads today. Such methods include:

1) Collecting Telemarketing Lists - One way of gathering consumer leads and business leads is through telemarketing lists. These lists contain demographic-specific telephone numbers of consumers and businessmen who are interested in buying your product and services or doing business with you.

2) Creating E-mail Lists - Through the Internet, you can easily promote your products and services as well as contact investors directly on their personal e-mails. However, simply collecting random e-mails is not effective in increasing sales. Instead, gathering e-mail lists of your target consumer leads or business leads should be your goal. This way, you can reduce the need to sort those who are truly interested with those who don't care about your business.

3) Conducting Surveys - Surveys are great marketing tools. This enables you to know what your target audience needs and wants. As such, you achieve feasible business leads that will surely sell, instead of leaving your products to chance. This way, not only can you create sellable products that your consumers will buy, you also build solid email lists of your "preferred" clients.

4) Gathering Targeted Contact Information - If you want reliable business leads and consumer leads, you should also gather contact information from new homeowners, new movers and new business. Thus, you can keep track of your customer base and investors even if they changed residence or company addresses.

Improving sales is doable if you only know where to start. Looking for business leads by conducting surveys, creating email lists, collecting telemarketing lists and gathering targeted contact information are four effective ways to gather contact information of consumers and businesses, even of new homeowners and new business. If you know that your sales are dropping, switch to another marketing plan that includes these methods of building business leads and you would be shocked how your sales dramatically increased.

Increase The Performance Of Your Computer

From: regsweep
Everybody would love to make lots of money quickly, working from home, and only doing a few hours of work per week. I've spent the past two years trying to find a great way of doing this. Only over the course of the past few months have I found any "get rich quick" programs worth buying. I've been trying to make money online for a long time. I had a few small websites, but they never made much more than a few hundred per month. It was easy money and didn't require much work on my part, but I knew there were people out there doing better than I was and I knew I could do as well as them.
Now, I've seen a lot of "get rich quick" programs. Most of these people make claims about earning $2000/day with Google or something similarly insane. Almost all of these people are complete liars. Even if they were making $2000/day with Google AdSense, it'd be because they had high- traffic websites with a lot of quality content. I'd know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I'd make daily with their programs. Maybe you've already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered.
I decided I'd look through the all of the "get rich quick" programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate. I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section.
In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless. The owners knew it, but they couldn't care less about their customers since they didn't offer refund policies! Amazingly, while looking through all of the programs, I actually did find a few legitimate programs. They were run by ordinary people like you and me, and they had found some great methods of making money from their home by doing very little work.
I spent some time working with those programs, and my income is now ten times what it used to be. These programs provided a large amount of great information on how to make extra money on your computer doing very little work. Numerous customers had provided great feedback and reviews for their products. Many of them have started to make money just days after buying!

Include Prices in Your Items

Consider this situation: a man walking down the street noticed an attractive spring overcoat in a clothier’s window. The material, the cut and everything about the overcoat strikes him right. But there is no price card in the window and even though he wonders what the overcoat’s price is, his interest in the coat is not strong enough to induce him to enter the store and inquire. He is like any other shopper who knows that somewhere along he will see another overcoat just like the one he saw with the price displayed with it. And if this happens, the dealer who advertised with the price won the customer and the other who did not lost a deal.

Keep in mind that money makes the loudest noise in the commercial world. It is the most powerful of all arguments and enticements. That is why prices should be included in every advertisement that aims to sell goods. Think about this: when you see an overcoat or a shirt that you like, the first thing that comes to your mind is “how much?” When this thought is met to your satisfaction with the price tags included in the products, you can immediately invest to you own and perhaps the dealers benefit. The most successful businesses understand the importance of having printed prices. They save the necessity of asking question, thus, they facilitate easy shopping.

Aside from having the prices attached to the products in the store, another best place to include them is in the catalog. By and large, catalogs contain the description of the product, some pictures and the price. Most consumers would request for a catalog before purchasing. When you have a catalog at hand, you will immediately be able to provide your customer what he needs and as a result you will have a successful sale.

Understand that a great and unique design is the first that is being noticed in catalogs. Hence, when you are able to create a visually appealing catalog it can speak in behalf of you and your business. In the past, only a few retailers use catalogs to showcase their products. But today, almost all businesses use catalogs to catch the attention of their target customers.

Thus, prices are absolutely necessary. Every customer, whether a man, woman or child, wants at first sight to learn the price of goods in which he or she may be interested. And as a business owner you should deliver your advertising in an easy, cultivated manner. The items, arguments and prices will make a better and long lasting impression when delivered in this tone. So, give clear, clever and satisfactory details in your items and never forget your best prices. When you have done this you can rest easy that your adverting is just right.

Improve your Business Cards and Enhance your Sales

In this digital generation where information can be easily obtained within seconds, business cards still have retained their importance in the achievement of increased business exposure and business sales. If your business already has a bunch of printed cards distributed to a number of potential customers and yet you do not see any improvement in your market reach, then it’s high time to revamp your old business card.

Take out your business card and look at it in an objective point of view. If you were the customer, would you want to keep the card, or throw it away? Are the fonts on the card too diminutive for clear reading? Or is your design reflective of what your company is in business for? Most businessmen have their company cards printed based on their own subjective preferences, never really taking into consideration if the business cards deliver the necessary message for maximum business impact in such a minimum space.

Online connectivity has made it possible for businesses and clients to communicate without hassle, yet it is the business cards which reinforce the presence of the business even in the absence of the Internet. Thus, even when your clients are vacationing in a deserted island, or have gone camping on a mountain side where Internet connection is hard to come by, they are still able to access your business information through the business card, and even better to give your card to a prospective client.

Postcards are also viable ways to generate increased contact for your business but because business cards are handier and easier to fit into a wallet or a business file organizer, they are more certain to be carried anywhere and anytime. Moreover, what is printed on the card is as important as to how the information is printed. A business card should have the name and the logo of the company or business, the slogan or motto of the company, the contact person, contact numbers or cell phone numbers, the business website, and if possible, a physical address.

Any business should never underestimate the power of business cards. It is able to provide quick information, is easy to keep, and if optimized to the fullest, can generate impressive sales increase. Even the empty space at the back of a card can be utilized to hold additional information like a map or an attractive freebie. Business cards can surely help any business to be more well-known and profitable in the long run.

Importance of the Custom Company Logo Design

When you starting a company you are thinking on how to cut expenses. One of such options to cut the startup costs is a company logo design. But is it good idea to order a cheap logo or work without company logo at all?

Logo represents company’s identity. First impression is made by logo or its absence. To know the importance of a logo just answer one question: “How many big, leading and famous companies don’t have logos?” If you company doesn’t have a logo this can raise doubts and negative thoughts. If logo was made by non-professional designer or made by owner of the company it is sometimes worse than no logo at all.

One of the popular questions is – why my logo should be custom? If logo is created with the use of a clipart (premade graphic elements from the public collections) it may look like or be identical to other logos and even your competitors’ logos. This will make identification of your company difficult or your logo may be easily mixed up with logo of another company. This situation may harm your reputation and money invested in marketing of your brand will be wasted.

Good company logo reflects the main point of your company, its values and helps in successful development of the business. Also, it is important to distinguish the logo design for big companies and start-ups. Logo for the big company may consist only of a one graphic element (Nike swoosh) and it will be easily identifiable but for small company such logo is a bad idea because you will need to spent huge amounts of money to promote it.

When owner of the company decides to create logo himself results are rarely look professional.  Results of his work may serve as concept for a new logo but not as logo. To create a successful logo you need more than Photoshop and tutorial from the internet.  You need to have knowledge of the basics of design at least; you need to have experience in logo design. Bad logo is worse than no logo.

Company logo is one of the must have attributes of the successful business. High-quality business card may tell a lot about its owner as well as a bad one.

Let’s sum up. Logo should be custom and designed by a professional logo designer.  You'll never have a second chance to make a good first impression. You have just a few seconds to attract the attention and to make first impression. In many ways first impression depends on your logo. Successful marketing of your business starts with a successful corporate identity.

Importance of a logo design in your branding

Your logo. Your business cards. Your advertising. They're all a reflection of you and your company. Properly designed, they communicate to your employees and your customers that your company is credible, trustworthy and professional. Your business image depends on a logo design that is polished and distinctive. Your logo is the cornerstone of your brand.

Not only does a high quality logo show your customers that your business is professional, but it also differentiates you from your competitors and creates a powerful memory in the minds of your customers. When they need your product or service, they'll think of you. Imagine as you hand out your next business card. Instead of a passing glance, your prospect stops and admires the style and colors of your logo. You feel a deep sense of pride, that everything your business stands for has been perfectly communicated in just a few seconds. Congratulations, you've made a lasting impression.

You want to have a successful business which means you simply cannot afford to have a poorly designed logo.

Good logo designers are not only able to design you a professional logo, but they will also make sure that your logo is distinct and unique so as to create a long lasting impression. Therefore the question that now comes to mind is, do we really need logo designers or can just anyone design a corporate logo? The answer to this question is not as simple as it seems. While the obvious answer may be no, the fact of the matter is that we do need professional logo designers because they are specialists in their field and are able to produce quality work that is distinct and one of a kind.

Logo designers understand the importance of a corporate logo. They know that designing a logo is no child&#8217;s play but that the success of a business depends on it. Professional logo designers are important because designing a logo is not just some haphazard exercise. There is deliberate and well convinced thought that go into making a logo that represents a company and the image it wishes to portray. Logo designing is more than just selecting the right color of a logo, it is about creating an image that aptly represent a company in every sphere that it is presented.

Logo designers therefore are of great importance to any business as they can help create logos with a powerful impact and reach. Think about Apple&#8217;s logo or the logo of Windows, besides the obvious there is more than just what meets the eye. These logos are not only powerful because they represent a company, but they are powerful because of what they stand for. Good logo designers know how to capture and depict the essence of a business in a single small image. They realize that a solid logo design communicates a company&#8217;s identity simply, clearly, and powerfully all at the same time.

The company web design field is rapidly growing and expanding. At LogoSuite, we pride ourselves on keeping up to speed by improving our web design skills, developing new design styles, and searching for new typefaces and design ideas.

Every success of a campaign or promotional material lies on how well it is produced and developed. Mainly vinyl banner advertising can be done through the utilization of groundbreaking printing equipments and printers. However in designing them there are several factors that should be considered.

•    Planning for a competitive campaign calls for a thorough planning and specific objectives. Illustration in Marketing Materials

Not so many years ago businesses used to grunt at using illustrations in their marketing materials. But today, the use and influence of illustrations is growing right along.

An illustration, image or picture that does not express a distinct idea is a poor illustration. It should be clearly drawn with an abundance of ideas to be conveyed in the fewest line possible. Originality cannot help flowing from the pencil of the good artist—he will naturally give an original touch to every picture he makes. All the while he is not straining for this effect, but rather following the natural bent of his artistic nature in reproducing the material and hinting a thought as to its performances.

Same way with the advertising writer. In telling his tale he need go over board in a wild desire to be original, because originality will naturally follow in the wake of clearness and conciseness, which are the first considerations he aims at. His mind, like the artist's, is trained in the direction of bringing out the best in the article being advertised. Both the artist and the writer have the creative faculty and the application of this creative faculty gives the illustrations and the ads all the originality necessary.

So say for instance you wanted to create postcards to send out to your customers to let them know of your new products. When you are able to present your products in the simplest and most sincere way possible you are creating an impression that your prospective customer can rely and trust. Post cards are a great way to advertise your products while also giving your customers a way to remembering your business afterward.

In all aspects of creating marketing materials for your business, an original and distinct material with the right illustrations can help boost your products. The first great point in advertising is to understand the art of drawing attention, then retaining it long enough to tell your story. The right images and illustrations will help you in this regard. It is like retailing. First you encourage the customer to come to your store then win him by the excellence of your values. Induce the reader to glance at your ad by your bright images and snappy catch line, then retain his attention by the brightness and good sense of your talk—keep him fastened to your ad until his head is filled with the tale you would impart.

Keep in mind that the visual impression of your ad is very important. Being able to send a catchy, brilliant and crisp visual impression to your prospects can entice them to stop and take a closer look at your ad. So, forget about what others say that illustrations are not as important as the content. Understand that when images are created with a winsome, harmonious effect, originality and thought in an easy, artistic and natural manner an ordinary reader can in a second grasp its points and uses.

How You Can Create Advertising That Sells...

A well-planned and properly executed marketing program should include a sufficient commitment of capital resources to an ongoing, well executed advertising program. Yes, this includes your business.

Businesses spend too many dollars, however, on ads that simply will not result in increased sales and profits. These ads are poorly conceived, poorly written, poorly designed, poorly targeted, and poorly placed.

Sounds like a poor way to do business, doesn’t it?

I often ask clients (as tactfully as possible), why they have run a particular ad. I get a lot of blank stares. A few tense moments will pass while the client tries to think of a clever answer. "To get the company name out in front of the public so I can get more business." they reply, with some relief.

This poor soul has just described a lack of a well defined goal, which leads almost inevitably to what I call an institutional ad. An institutional ad can best be described as one which identifies the advertiser and lists address, telephone number, hours of operation, and (maybe) the company logo. That’s it. What a terrible waste of money!

Unless your company grosses a billion dollars a year, you can’t afford to do institutional ads. If your company does gross over a billion dollars a year...you’re probably too smart to run institutional ads.

Every ad you run must result in increased sales and profits and an enhanced image for your company. Every ad should make the customer a solid offer and give the customer sound reasons to buy from you now. Remember, the customer is sitting back and asking, "What can you do for me?" If you’re careful to answer that question with a powerful offer and reasons to buy now, you’re on your way to advertising success...which results in increased sales and profits.

How can you improve your chances of increasing sales?

Let’s look at some profit-producing ideas...

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP
Very few businesses are prepared or qualified to produce quality advertising. If you spend more than $2,000 per month in advertising, you should seriously consider hiring a qualified advertising professional. There are any number of skilled freelancers who can develop strategy, and create your marketing materials with a keen eye to using proven methods and techniques.

Good advertising talent always pays it’s own way through increased sales and profits, improved cost-effectiveness, reduced selling costs, and shortened selling cycles.

If your resources are limited, don’t feel lost. There’s no reason why you can’t learn to write an effective ad. That’s what the rest of this article is all about...how you can create advertising that sells.

FOLLOW A PROVEN FORMULA
One of the oldest and most useful formulas for ad design takes its name from the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verde. In this case the letters A-I-D-A stand for ATTENTION, INTEREST, DESIRE, AND ACTION.

In it’s simplest form this formula serves as a structural blueprint. It guides us to: (1) Get the prospect’s Attention, (2) Foster his or her Interest in your offer, (3) build Desire for your product or service and (4) Generate some type of Action on the part of the buyer.

As we expand on each of these elements individually, you’ll discover for yourself how to apply the formula to your specific situation.

ATTENTION (The Headline)

Hit your prospect right between the eyes with a magic wand. How? With a powerful benefit headline. The headline is the most important single element of your ad. You have two to three seconds to stop the reader as he or she passes by. You must stop the reader, and interest them in your benefit, if you expect them to read further.

A powerful headline will (1) stop the reader (2) isolate and qualify your best prospects, and (3) pull your reader into the sub-heads and body copy.

How do you write the attention-getting headline? First, carefully review all the benefits of-use of your product or service. Second, take your most important benefit and weave that benefit into your headline. Use action words to describe the benefit to one individual reader.

Here are some examples...

"Save 50% On Office Supplies...Send For Your Free Catalog Today !"

"How YOU Can Create Advertising That SELLS!"

"New! Amazing Techniques That You Can Use To Land A High-Paying Job...Today!"

"How To Design Profit-Producing Web Sites That SELL!"

APPEALING TO BUSINESS EXECUTIVES

When writing your ad to a business-to-business audience you should keep in mind the six key benefits most likely to get attention:

1.Save Money 2.Save Time 3.Increase Sales 4.Increase Profits 5.Enhance Image 6.Boost cash flow

Most other benefits are subordinate to these key six. I call them the"Business Benefit Six-Pack." Show your customer how your product or service provides these benefits, and you will dramatically improve your results.

INTEREST AND DESIRE> (The Offer, Body Copy, Benefits-Benefits- Benefits)

You build interest in your product or service (and the desire to buy) by making the customer a compelling offer and by describing as many benefits as possible in simple and interesting terms.

Tip # 1: Top ad pros always write the ad first, then buy whatever space necessary to display the ad message with clarity and power.

Tip # 2: Words sell...graphic design displays the words in a visually appealing way. Don’t confuse the two. No amount of trendy design will make a poorly written ad sell for you. Good design reinforces good copy...it cannot take the place of it! The implication for internet marketers is that content is king. Avoid glitsy, moving graphics that only distract from your message and increase load times. Good design and good copy should work synergistically.

Tip #3: Long copy sells...as long as it’s good copy. I call it "greased slide" copy. You get the reader on the top of the slide when he reads a powerful headline, and he can’t get off until he has taken the action asked for (i.e., ordered the product, made the trip to the store, dialed the phone, clicked the order/inquiry button, filled out the on-line order, etc.).

ACTION(Ask For The Order)

Now comes the moment of truth. You must ask for the order. Give reasons for the customer to buy now...and make it easy for him to do so. In direct response marketing, this will involve a coupon for mail orders, a toll-free order line, an e-mail address, an on-line order form, a fax order line..any means to make it easy and simple to order!

Take the fear out of the purchase. Give solid guarantees. Offer secure ordering for on-line customers. Show testimonials from satisfied customers.

Show what the customer is going to lose if he doesn’t order now.

If you are a retailer, include a map to your store(s) (newcomers love them). Show the credit cards you accept, list the hours of operation, tell them about your friendly staff, include a special coupon or other incentive. In other words, "Roll out the red carpet."

INVEST IN FUTURE PROFITS

So there you have it. A primer on good advertising. If I’ve piqued your interest to learn more, then check out the other articles available at this resource.

Remember, bad advertising...no matter what the media...is an unproductive expense.

Good advertising is an investment in future profits!

Good advertising and good management go together. You can’t have a successful business on-line or off-line---without both.

How You Can Become a Super Affiliate

How You Can Become a Super Affiliate

The humdrum existence of going to the office day after day doing the usual 9-5 shift is a trying task for those who have lived all their lives doing so.  This is why the convenience of doing work at home under amazingly flexible working hours is a dazzling prospect to them.  Doing work at home that is as fulfilling as having a career working for a computer on the 19th floor of a skyscraper is already a possibility in these modern times.  This is because the jungle-like network that is the internet has given birth to a business that has given some people practically new lives doing nothing but so.

This particular business allows people to work at home under flexible working hours.  There is no boss to scream around putting pressure on everyone about the deadline at hand.  There is no clutter of messy paperwork that needs to be completed the soonest possible time.  Conveniences such as these are experienced by those who are into affiliate marketing, the newest way to earn money without having to go through all sorts of routine found in regular employment.

Those who have been in the business long enough can attest to the fact that it is a lucrative business indeed, one that can actually give people things that they could not possibly possess or experience under ordinary circumstances.

The business called affiliate marketing involves an affiliate’s promotion of a merchant’s website.  Here the website owned by the affiliate is made to advertise and market the website of the merchant through the affiliate program that they run.  Whenever someone clicks on the merchant’s website promoted by the one owned by the affiliate, the affiliate is given a commission.  This is in recognition of his effort in helping the merchant make a sale.

The system involved in affiliate marketing seems easy, but it also takes a lot of diligence and perseverance for one to be able to penetrate it thoroughly.  Those who want to get into this type of business should possess the necessary skills to be able tread through the industry with confidence and self-assurance.  Still, other factors are needed by one to be able to really break in.  Knowledge about the business at hand is very important as it dictates the actions that are to be done by people who are into it.

The leading figure in affiliate marketing is the super affiliate.  He is basically an e-mail marketer who collects large databases of e-mail addresses through newsletters.  Super affiliates are also those who know the business even better than affiliate managers as a result of their knowledge about the affiliate marketing industry inside out.  Those who want to be super affiliates should know that becoming a super affiliate is not easy, because it takes a lot to be able to master the marketing craft.

Becoming a super affiliate means having one’s own website and autoresponder.  These tools will help a lot in one’s facilitation of the business.  Building one’s own list is another.  Creating a loyal customer base and taking care of it is one secret that successful super affiliates have.  Making good customer relations is also important if one wants to be a super affiliate to reckon with.

Continuing to market to the people on one’s list is another must if one wants to succeed as a super affiliate.  Sending out quality content in lieu of ads is an advantage as products are marketed better whenever enough information is given about them.

Building traffic to one’s own site is also one of the most essential points in the affiliate marketing business.  Making one’s affiliate links his own business will allow him to build a strong relationship with his customers, enabling him to market to them over and over again.

The most important thing one should remember if he wants to become a super affiliate is to treat affiliate marketing as a business first and foremost.  If he is capable of doing this, then he will never have to go back to the humdrum existence of working the 9-5 shift.  A career as a super affiliate in the business which will change his life forever could possibly take that unexciting job’s place.

How to Write Better Advertising Copy

A successful marketing plan relies heavily on the pulling-power of advertising copy. Writing result-oriented ad copy is difficult, as it must appeal to, entice, and convince consumers to take action. There is no magic formula to write perfect ad copy; it is based on a number of factors, including ad placement, demographic, even the consumer’s mood when they see your ad. So how is any writer supposed to pen a stunning piece of advertising copy -- copy that sizzles and sells? The following tips will jumpstart your creative thinking and help you write a better ad.

KNOW THE BASICS

All good advertising copy is comprised of the same basic elements. Good advertising copy always:

Grabs Attention: Consumers are inundated with ads, so it’s vital that your ad catches the eye and immediately grabs interest. You could do this with a headline or slogan (such as VW’s “Drivers Wanted” campaign), color or layout (Target’s new colorful, simple ads are a testimony to this) or illustration (such as the Red Bull characters or Zoloft’s depressed ball and his ladybug friend).

Promises Credible Benefit: To feel compelled by an ad, the consumer must stand to gain something; the product is often not enough. What would the consumer gain by using your product or service? This could be tangible, like a free gift; prestige, power or fame. But remember: you must be able to make good on that promise, so don’t offer anything unreasonable.

Keeps Interest: Grabbing the consumer’s attention isn’t enough; you have to keep that attention for at least a few seconds. This is where your benefits come into play or a product description that sets your offer apart from the others.

Generates Action: This is the ultimate point of advertising copy -- it must make the reader react in some way. This doesn’t necessarily translate to buying the product immediately or using the service. Your ad could be a positioning tool to enable the reader to think about you in a certain light. Speak to your audience, or the audience you’d like to reach, and you’ll be surprised how frequently they come to you in the future.

KNOW THE MEDIUM

How you write your advertising copy will be based on where you will place your ad. If it’s a billboard ad, you’ll need a super catchy headline and simple design due to the speed at which people will pass. Online ads are similar; consumers are so inundated with Internet advertising that your ad must be quick and catchy. Magazine advertising is the most versatile, but this is solely dependent on the size of your ad and how many other ads compete with yours. If you have a full page ad, feel free to experiment; more page space gives you more creative space. If the ad is tiny, you’ll need to keep things as simple as possible.

KNOW THE STYLE

Advertising copy is a unique type of writing. Its point is to balance creativity and readability into something persuasive and entertaining. Keep the following points in mind when you write your copy:

Be Succinct: There are few things more damaging to an ad campaign than messy wordiness. Use short sentences with as many familiar words as possible; save the thesaurus for a thesis or dissertation. Always make sure to use precise phrasing (why use five adjectives when one good action verb would do?); and eliminate any redundancies, such as “little tiny” or “annual payments of $XXX per year.”

Talk To Your Audience, Not At Them: Though you are announcing the availability of a product or service, avoid being clinical or overly formal. Write as if you’re talking to your ideal customer; use a style they’d use, words they’d be familiar with, slang they’d probably know. But be absolutely certain that you’re using these terms and phrases correctly. A recent McDonald’s campaign attempted to reach a certain audience by using the phrase “I’d hit it” in reference to a cheeseburger, unaware that the phrase is almost always used as a sexual reference.

Avoid Clichés: It’s easy for writers new to advertising copy to fall into this trap, but it’s a trap that can severely damage the writing. Clichés fail to ignite the imagination; and consumers so numb to the phrases will often skip right past them, effectively ruining the succinct element of your ad. If you find yourself tempted to use a cliché, think about the message you want to convey with that cliché and try to rephrase it in a more imaginative, personal way.

Always Proofread: It’s an obvious point, but you’d be surprised how many ads run in a magazine or on a billboard with an error of some sort. Go through your advertising copy carefully to make sure that every word is spelled correctly, the grammar is impeccable and the punctuation is dead on. Even the best ads can be ruined by a misplaced comma or dangling modifier. Use a program like WhiteSmoke ( http://www.WhiteSmokeSoftware.com ) or StyleWriter ( http://www.StyleWriter-USA.com ) to help you write better.

How to win new graphic design clients and keep old ones coming back

Everybody likes to see big fat pay cheques coming in, hell some of us even deserve them from time to time but what makes a client keep handing over the readies over and over again and how can you as a lowly graphic designer among a sea of equally unidentifiable no-marks hope to secure new graphic design or website design contracts? Best read on my friends as we give you the insider knowledge to equip you in this never ending rat race to swindle your fellow man

A winning smile costs nothing
Think back over the last week or so and see if you can remember anyone giving you the time of day in the street, a simple 'good morning' or a cheery smile from a beautiful stranger as you go about your daily routine. It didn't happen did it? Why? Because you've got a face like a bag of spanners, you're walking around as miserable as sin and you're giving off bad vibes. In short your whole lousy operation stinks. So how do we turn this around? Next time you have a new client down to the office for a meeting, go up to them and plant a big sloppy kiss on their forehead. You never know they might turn around and sign that big 5 figure sum graphic design contract.

It's not all about the money
Sometimes, the old adage 'a dog is for life - not just for christmas' rings chillingly true. If you've ever considered or contemplated suicide based on the fact your clients have been leaving in droves and the only regular graphic design job you've secured in the last 3 months is a flyer design for 'disco Stu's' 70's night down at the church hall - on a wednesday night, then it's high time you looked at yourself square in the mirror and worked out why. Bad breath? Crooked teeth? Inability to stop yourself scratching your privates in public? No, the real reason your clients are leaving you high and dry is because you're too mean. Throw in a few freebies, offer to cook your client a lovely lasagna dinner for two, buy them a kinder surprise. Anything to curry favour that isn't going to break the bank is worth its weight in gold. And that's a fact, fact fans!

Dress to impress
Anyone who was anyone in the eighties will remember 'power dressing'. 6 inch stiletto heels, shoulder pads set to stun and low cut tops with peep hole bras. By and large businessmen today are reluctant to go back to cross dressing in order to win that all important contract and prefer to go along the tried and tested route of wearing dull grey slacks and loafers. Remember Elton John didn't get where he is today by dressing like the boy next door.

Brainstorm until you haemorrage
If you can't work out why you're losing money hand over fist and your client base has dried up to a thin wafer like crust, get your team involved and crack some skulls! Sometimes the best people to tell you where you're going wrong are your terrified and hate filled staff. Jim over in scanning has been sat there feeding off his resentment for not fulfilling his life for the last 10 years. Use him - he's got a brain up there hasn't he? Margaret the lady who comes by the office to sell sandwiches - again, could she be put to better use sat in the spare room paid to think up a marketing strategy to win over your rivals clients? If not think and think again until it hurts. Remember its your ass on the line here. Above all remember 'skull cracking' is fun and if a few eggs get broken in the process, hey that's life in the fast lane buddy.

Delegate, don't vegetate
We've all done it at some stage. Tried to cope when our world is falling apart, attempting to juggle the accounts, the graphic design work you have in and trying to bone up on web design for beginners in order to make ends meat. Here's a tip. Don't bother. That's right you heard. Research has shown that the best way to overcome a problem or situation is to sleep on it. If you've just about had a basin full its time to hit the sack and forget about it. Take it easy, kick back and have a beer. Feels good doesn't it. Don't forget to always have someone on hand who can cut the slack when you've lost the plot. A right hand man is someone to offload problems onto at a moments notice and then slink back to your chair safe in the knowledge he probably isn't going to quit his job any time soon what with a new baby at home and a mortgage hanging over his shoulders. Too many graphic design managers just do't know when to distribute the work. Remember the immortal words of Homer Simpson 'If a jobs worth doing well, don't bother"

Right, you're now armed with some invaluable insider information to get things back on track. Don't screw up and you'll do just fine. Now get out there and nail that son of a gun.

How to Use Two Tier Affiliate Programs to Your Advantage

How to Use Two Tier Affiliate Programs to Your Advantage

To those who are not familiar with affiliate marketing, two-tier could be a new term to you but to those who are involved in this kind of money-making experience; it could mean a stream of income. Two-tier is an enticing feature of a particular affiliate program wherein, affiliates are allowed to sign-up additional affiliates below them. So that when the sub-affiliates otherwise known as second tier affiliates, earns a commission, the affiliate above receives a commission too.

In two-tier system, the first tier of commission is just like in the usual affiliate program. The sole difference is that it has an additional tier/s or sub-affiliates, whereby marketers also gain a commission once the people that the additional tiers referred to the program generate sales. Theoretically, affiliate programs can have multi-tier program with infinite number of tiers, however, there are practical limitations. As tiers increase, the affiliate program draws more webmasters who are mostly interested in gaining profit from other’s work and effort.

Two-Tier affiliate program is also recognized as Multi-Level Marketing. When you sign-up for an affiliate program, you are identified as the first tier and the person that you have recruited or encouraged to sign up is the second tier. If there are additional tiers, then the system can now be regarded as multi-level marketing (MLM). But today, MLM isn’t as effective and successful as it was several years ago. It is because at present, affiliates can freely select from thousands of affiliate programs and they can quickly switch from one program to another.

You could probably go wrong if you’re thinking that you can depend on your second tier to do the job for you. So if you want to use two-tier affiliate program to your advantage and generate more income by encouraging sub-affiliates to sign-up below you, make sure that you carefully choose your affiliate merchant. Pick those merchants who generate stable stream of high quality products, give high or just commissions, offers real time tracking, furnishes you with a proven and tested advertising arsenal and treat their affiliates very well. You can also sign-up for the merchant who gives high visitors-to-sales conversion rate.

It is also advisable if you engage yourself with a web merchant that has a user-friendly website which you can access anytime so that you can monitor your statistics including visits and sales. And if possible, choose the one with powerful marketing tools which you can use in promoting their products.

You’re just wasting much of your time and effort and worse, damaging your integrity once you promote poor affiliate program because your visitor will surely presume that the product or service you are reselling must be dreadful too. That’s the reason why it is important to pick first-rate affiliate programs. Through these, you can not only build up a good relationship with your visitor, but also, you can easily get more tiers to sign-up under you. You should also be cautious of some affiliate programs that give more importance on the profits to be earned in taking on other affiliates than on the income from sales, because you’ll just eventually find out that someone has already close those sales without informing you. Usually, this kind of affiliate program offers a very low first-tier payment but a sky-scraping second-tier commission.

If you want to start an affiliate program of your own, you surely have to decide whether it will be a single tier or two-tier affiliate program. Who am I to say which of these two programs are better? But let me tell you the benefits you could get out of two-tier affiliate program.

First, your profit will increase due to increased sales from the customers that your second tier has referred. Second, you have a much broader customer base to which you can sell your products and services. Then, you gain more and stable income because the customers referred by your affiliate and sub-affiliates could probably develop a lifetime loyalty on your site and your products. Plus, you have an army of sub-affiliates who will promote and resell your products and services to their visitors and subscribers.

Two-tier program has been a proven winner and should be the number one choice for the budding affiliates as well as for the affiliate program managers. When you start gaining profits from your site as well as your tiers, this is now the right time to say that you have used two-tier affiliate program to your advantage.
